Trump Pushes To Acquire Greenland's Mineral Reserves

President Donald Trump is renewing a push for the U.S. to acquire Greenland amid rising demand for rare earths, citing strategic access to the island's critical minerals. A U.S. Geological Survey reported China produced 270,000 tons of rare earths in 2024 (out of 390,000 global), the U.S. 45,000 tons, and estimated Greenland holds about 1.5 million tons of reserves. Denmark and Greenland oppose the proposal.
