Pentagon Airlifts Microreactor Demonstrating Rapid Deployment

The Pentagon and Energy Department on Feb. 15, 2026, airlifted a 5-megawatt microreactor without fuel from California to Hill Air Force Base in Utah, officials said. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Undersecretary of Defense Michael Duffey called the roughly 700-mile C-17 flight a breakthrough to fast-track commercial licensing and enable rapid nuclear power deployment for military bases and data centers.
