Vietnam's General Secretary To Lam received China's ministers Wang Yi, Dong Jun and Wang Xiaohong in Hanoi on March 16, 2026, for the inaugural ministerial-level '3+3' strategic dialogue on foreign affairs, national defence and public security. The leaders agreed to deepen political trust and cooperation—covering defence, law enforcement, trade, technology (including AI) and connectivity—and to manage maritime differences peacefully under international law, including UNCLOS 1982.
