Sebi Asks Google To Track Finfluencers

Sebi on Wednesday asked Google to deploy AI tools to identify finfluencers evading regulations and launched a verified-app label on Google Play, Sebi chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey said. Sebi said it escalated more than 1.3 lakh misleading investment instances, flagged about 66 fake trading apps, verified over 600 apps, and will use an API framework plus MoUs with MeitY and DoT to strengthen enforcement.
Key Points
- 1Requests Google to use AI to detect finfluencers sidestepping securities regulations
- 2Highlights scale: 130,000 content instances escalated and 66 fake trading apps taken down
- 3Implements verified-app badges and an API framework to restrict ads to registered intermediaries
Scoring Rationale
Official regulator action and verified-app rollout provide practical impact, limited by sector scope and modest technical novelty.
