Google Integrates Photos Into Gemini Personal Intelligence
Google is rolling deeper integration between its Gemini generative AI and Google Photos, Gmail, and search data via the Personal Intelligence and AI Mode features. The integration processes photos, videos, face groups, and user-provided facts in a Remember List to generate personalized responses in Ask Photos and AI-powered search. Google emphasizes these signals are not used for advertising and says personal Photos data will not be used to train models outside Google Photos, but the new flows raise privacy concerns among journalists and other observers. The feature is off by default and requires opt-in, but enabling it centralizes highly sensitive, multimodal personal signals into model inputs, changing threat models for both users and practitioners who build downstream tools that may access Google data.
