Engadget reports that the feature first attempts to alert the wearer through vibration, a screen notification, and an audible warning. If the wearer does not respond during a 30-second countdown, the system can contact emergency services and designated contacts. Google has described the feature as limited by device and regional availability.
This type of automated escalation raises a different validation bar from wellness trend reporting. Across consumer wearables, emergency-detection models must balance missed events against false alerts, while accounting for activities and environmental conditions that can distort sensor readings.
