South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT announced Thursday that two consortia, Naver Cloud and NC AI, were eliminated from the national AI foundation model project after the first evaluation. Only LG AI Research, SK Telecom and Upstage advanced, with Naver Cloud disqualified for failing originality requirements tied to end-to-end, from-scratch weight initialization. The ministry allows a 10-day appeal and will recruit an additional team.
