India Launches Sovereign AI Models Nationwide

India's government announced on Feb 17 at the AI Impact Summit that sovereign AI models are now available, Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. Twelve organisations — including IIT Bombay Consortium, Fractal Analytics, and Tech Mahindra Maker’s Lab — will develop models trained on Indian datasets, and investors have committed over Rs 20,000 crore to support infrastructure and rollout over the next one to two years.
