Google Tests Unified Android Voice-Search Interface

In standard Search mode, the reported interface shows a four-bar waveform while the spoken query is transcribed at the top of the screen. In AI Mode, users tap a next arrow after speaking; a stop control opens a Search box containing the transcript for further editing.

Search Live and Song Search sit beside those two modes. Google's documentation describes Search Live as a back-and-forth voice conversation in the Google app, while its Song Search help page says users can identify music by playing, humming, whistling, or singing it. Those official pages verify the existing functions, not the newly reported toolbar.

The test also remembers the last mode used and defaults to either Search or AI Mode the next time the voice interface opens. That is a saved interface preference, not evidence that Google is automatically routing spoken requests among Search, AI Mode, and Search Live.

For teams building voice or multimodal products, a shared entry point can make separate capabilities easier to discover. It also makes visible mode state important because one-shot search, an AI query, a live conversation, and song identification have different submission and response patterns. The beta test shows how Google may consolidate those workflows, but until Google confirms wider availability, it should not be treated as a platform-wide launch.
