Entergy Secures Meta Deal Saving Customers

Entergy said on Friday it reached a deal with Meta Platforms that could deliver up to $2.65 billion in customer savings by having Meta assume full service and resilience costs for a hyperscale data center in Northeast Louisiana. Meta will also fund storm-related investments, support energy-efficiency and nuclear options, and supply up to 2,500 megawatts of solar, which Entergy says could add about $2 billion in additional savings atop a prior $650 million.
Key Points
- 1Secures Meta-backed agreement to fund hyperscale Louisiana data center, creating up to $2.65 billion savings
- 2Shifts full service and resilience costs to Meta, lowering financial burden on ratepayers and utility
- 3Enables utilities and regulators to pursue renewables and nuclear investments with reduced customer rate impact
Scoring Rationale
Official Entergy–Meta agreement promises significant customer savings, but benefits are utility-specific and not transformative for AI infrastructure.
