Artist Recreates Historical Scenes With 3D Gaussian Splatting

Krzysztof Szkoda reconstructed single historical photographs into 3D scenes using SHARP, then rendered them with 3D Gaussian Splatting and imported to Blender via the KIRI Engine add-on. The workflow demonstrates single-image reconstruction can enable 3DGS pipelines that normally require multi-view input, and KIRI Engine released a free Mesh Wrap tool for Blender photogrammetry workflows. This approach uses machine-learning depth and focus data rather than AI image generation.
Scoring Rationale
Practical tooling and a novel single-image pipeline drive relevance, but limited novelty and shallow reporting reduce impact.
