Alberta Promotes Data Centres To Secure Sovereignty

Alberta’s technology minister Nate Glubish told the Digital Innovation Forum 2026 in Calgary the province is aggressively courting AI data-centre investment, promoting low taxes, abundant natural gas, and a cold climate. AESO reported proposed data-centre demand reached 20.7 gigawatts in Q3 2025, prompting calls for on-site power generation; Alberta’s December 2024 strategy targets $100 billion of data-centre investment.
