Wikimedia Shapes AI Governance For Knowledge Commons

In November 2025 Wikimedia CH, with Open Future and IMD Business School, convened a roundtable and published a report on generative AI’s impact on Wikipedia. The study cites an 8% drop in human traffic and a 50% surge in bot activity, warns of disintermediation by AI services, and recommends governance, sustainability rules, and participation in open-source AI to protect the knowledge commons.
