Archer Acquires Boeing Aviation Technology Units

The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory and other closing conditions, according to GeekWire. CNBC reported that Boeing's initial holding will amount to 19.75% of Archer's Class A shares, with options to acquire additional shares over the next four years.
Assets spanning eVTOL, airspace software and drones
The acquired businesses cover distinct parts of advanced aviation:

Reuters also reported that Archer's shares rose about 14% in morning trading after the announcement, while CNBC reported a roughly 20% mid-morning increase.
Technology access and financial terms
Boeing and Archer will establish a collaboration and technology-sharing arrangement under which Boeing retains access to Wisk's core autonomous-flight technology for current and future commercial and defense aircraft programs, Reuters reported. The Air Current reported that the arrangement is structured as a cross-licensing agreement and that Boeing has agreed to invest up to $55 million in an upcoming Archer funding round. It also reported that Boeing will receive warrants to purchase up to $200 million of Archer stock in the future.
Brian Yutko, Boeing vice president of commercial airplanes product development, described the transaction in a statement reported by CNBC: "[It] allows Wisk, SkyGrid and Insitu to accelerate capability development and time to market while ensuring Boeing capitalizes on its investments in these technologies over the past two decades through continued development in our core businesses."
The Air Current reported that Goldstein characterized Wisk's engineering organization as a source of talent for Archer's hybrid-electric aircraft work with Anduril Industries.
A consolidation in an unproven market
Reuters reported that the eVTOL sector has not yet demonstrated that air taxis can be certified, manufactured at scale and operated at prices attractive to everyday customers. The same report noted that delayed commercial rollouts have pushed companies across the sector toward military, cargo and government markets for nearer-term revenue and funding.
