Vistra CEO Explains Texas Grid Challenges

Jim Burke, president and CEO of Vistra Corp., told reporters on Dec. 12, 2025 that Vistra supplies about a quarter of Texas’ electricity and serves 5 million customers, with roughly half its output and customer base in Texas. He said post-2021 winterization and added batteries, solar and nuclear have strengthened reliability, but Texas lacks a capacity market to pay for reserve capacity as data centers, crypto and electrification drive roughly 5–6% annual energy growth.
