UPI Targets One Billion Users And Global Expansion

Reserve Bank deputy governor T. Rabi Sankar said at the Global Inclusive Finance India Summit that India’s UPI could expand from about 400 million active users to nearly 1 billion (100 crore) in coming years. Government officials said they are pursuing wider international acceptance — currently in eight countries — while NPCI reported UPI recorded 22,000 crore transactions worth INR 299.76 lakh crore in 2025 and rolled out feature-phone USSD access and new payment features.
