Student Generates AI Deepfakes, Faces Arrest

Coimbatore Rural Police arrested a 20-year-old male third-year student from Tiruchi on February 6, 2026, for using AI image-editing tools to generate semi-nude morphed photographs of 24 female students and posting them via a fake Instagram account. Police said he collected photos from social media and WhatsApp, posted from January 18, and registered offences under IT Act Section 67A and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 75(1)(iii); Instagram removed the account.
