Snap Creates Independent Specs Unit For Glasses

Snap announced on Jan. 29, 2026 that it will create an independent subsidiary, the Specs unit, to develop augmented-reality smart glasses and attract minority investment. The unit will recruit nearly 100 global positions and builds on more than $3 billion invested over 11 years, promising an “intelligence system” to anticipate user needs and intensifying competition with Meta, which held 70% market share.
