Pentagon Allows Anthropic Use With Limited Exemptions

The Pentagon told senior leaders in a March 6 memo that use of Anthropic’s AI tools may continue beyond a previously announced six-month phase-out if authorised for rare and extraordinary mission-critical national security tasks, according to the memo signed by CIO Kirsten Davies. Units seeking exemptions must submit comprehensive risk-mitigation plans; the memo reiterates a contractor ban and follows Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s prior prohibition and Anthropic's lawsuit.
