Nordlaks Adopts AI Ultrasound For Gender Sorting

Norwegian salmon farmer Nordlaks said it will adopt Greenfox Marine's AI-based ultrasound system for automatic gender sorting and health monitoring of smolt, after the system won the Innovation Award at Aqua Nor 2025. The system integrates with existing vaccination lines, can sort up to 20,000 fish per hour by gender, size and health, and Greenfox says customers have increased harvest weight by more than 4,000 metric tons; Nordlaks will pilot a heart-examination feature.
Key Points
- 1Adopts AI ultrasound system that sorts up to 20,000 smolt per hour by gender, size, health
- 2Improves production: Greenfox customers report over 4,000 metric tons increased harvest weight
- 3Enables gender-segregated cages for better fillet yield and independent harvest scheduling
Scoring Rationale
Industry adoption and measurable production gains drive relevance, but innovation is incremental within a single vertical.
