Mendral Team Joins Anthropic for Claude Platform

Founders Sam Alba and Andrea Luzzardi said Mendral was created to automate engineering tasks outside a company's core product work, including diagnosing continuous-integration failures, fixing flaky tests, and reviewing dependency updates. They said the team will continue that work at Anthropic.

The founders also said Claude had powered Mendral from its first commit. Mendral's announcement did not describe a product integration schedule, disclose transaction terms, or promise that its existing capabilities would appear in Claude on a specific date. The New Stack separately reported the move as an acqui-hire and said financial terms were not disclosed.

Mendral said Alba and Luzzardi previously worked as founding engineers at Docker and later co-founded Dagger. That background gives Anthropic experience spanning containers, developer infrastructure, and agent-based automation, but the announcement is a team move rather than a new Claude feature release.

The immediate operational change is for Mendral customers: the hosted Mendral product is being closed, and the company said affected customers should already have received transition communication. Customers should use those direct notices for timing and migration details because the public announcement does not provide a universal shutdown date.

For Claude Platform users, the move signals that Anthropic is adding engineering experience around CI reliability and dependency work. It does not yet establish which capabilities will ship, how they will be packaged, or when they will become available. Those questions require a later Anthropic product announcement or documentation update.
