Macquarie Adopts Google SRE And AI Agents

Macquarie's banking division is adopting Google's site reliability engineering principles and deploying AI SRE agents, Phillip Grasso-Nguyen said at Dynatrace Perform 2026 in late January 2026. The cloud- and Kubernetes-based retail bank, running over 6,000 services and 1,500 engineers, reports 99.98% availability, a 79% detection-rate improvement, 59% fewer critical incidents, and handles 8,000+ changes annually. Macquarie also launched a customer-facing AI agent, Q, in mid-January.
Key Points
- 1Adopts Google SRE principles, removing change boards and favoring smaller, frequent releases to reduce risk.
- 2Achieves 99.98% availability, 79% faster detection rate, and 59% fewer critical incidents.
- 3Uses Dynatrace and proprietary AI agents for automated diagnostics, runbooks, and release-verification gatekeeping.
Scoring Rationale
Strong empirical results and official sourcing; limited novelty beyond applying known SRE and AIOps patterns.
