Kumho Tire Adopts AI For Smart Tires

Kumho Tire said Wednesday it is applying big data and AI to accelerate tire development, including a "tire digital twin" virtual simulation and embedded sensor smart tires. In September it signed a memorandum with Autonomous A2Z to develop next-generation tires for Level 4 autonomous vehicles, supplying tires for the ROii bus used at the 2025 APEC summit. The firm plans commercialization within four years and aims for fully sustainable raw materials by 2045.
Key Points
- 1Builds tire digital twin using AI and simulations to predict optimal compounds and performance
- 2Partners with Autonomous A2Z to supply tires for Level 4 ROii bus, validating autonomy use-case
- 3Commits to commercialize smart and airless tires within four years; pursue full sustainability by 2045
Scoring Rationale
Credible company announcements and partnership validate applied AI efforts; limited industry-wide novelty and primarily single-firm, commercial roadmap.
