India Deploys Energy Stack To Scale DRE

JVN Subramanyam, Joint Secretary at MNRE, said at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 on Feb. 16 that the India Energy Stack (IES) combined with AI will accelerate distributed renewable energy (DRE). He reported India has about 140 GW solar capacity, roughly 35 GW DRE, with nearly 18 GW added in the past 15 months and cited $9 billion rooftop and $4 billion agriculture investments.
Key Points
- 1Reports addition of 18 GW DRE in last 15 months, total DRE about 35 GW nationwide
- 2Positions IES and AI as governance-enabled interoperability platform to improve predictability and demand response
- 3Enables prosumers to benchmark generation, trade excess electricity, and aid predictive maintenance
Scoring Rationale
Official MNRE and ISA statements give high credibility and national impact, but details remain strategic rather than technical.
