IIT Madras Launches ThinnAI Driver Training Platform

At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in Delhi, IIT Madras' Centre of Excellence for Road Safety unveiled ThinnAI, a personalised AI driver-training platform targeting first-time drivers. The platform, presented on March 2026, uses zero-human-intervention adaptive learning, behavioural science and video game–style assessments to address India's roughly 1.7 lakh annual road fatalities. IIT-M also introduced RATH and DDHI for data-driven road safety governance.
Key Points
- 1Launches ThinnAI, AI-driven driver-training platform assessing skills before learner's licence issuance
- 2Addresses India's approximately 170,000 annual road fatalities by focusing on behaviour and practical skills
- 3Enables licensing authorities to deploy adaptive, zero-human-intervention training and data-driven governance tools
Scoring Rationale
Official institutional launch and national scope drive score; limited evidence of deployment scale reduces transformative impact.
