DeepMind Releases AlphaGenome Predicting Mutation Effects

Google DeepMind published a Nature paper this week unveiling AlphaGenome, an AI that predicts how DNA mutations affect gene expression across up to one million bases and 11 regulatory mechanisms. Built on Enformer, it analyzes splicing, chromatin accessibility and distal regulation, and is available free for non-commercial use while DeepMind plans model releases for researcher customization.
Scoring Rationale
High novelty and broad utility in genomics research, limited by inability to predict individual-level disease causation or long-range (>100kb) regulation.
