Debian GNOME Removes GTK2 From Forky

The Debian GNOME team announced on Jan. 7, 2026 that it will remove gtk+2.0 from the Forky distribution before the release of Debian 14 in 2027. The team said the number of affected packages is now less than 25% of the 2020 list, highlighted GTK2 is unmaintained and lacks HiDPI and native Wayland support, and identified the graphical installer as a blocker.
