China Dismantles Cross-Border Telecom Fraud Network

Chinese authorities completed the extradition of syndicate leader Chen Zhi from Phnom Penh in early January as part of a 2025 campaign that cracked 258,000 telecom and online fraud cases and repatriated 57,000 suspects. Authorities said they intercepted 3.6 billion fraudulent calls, blocked 3.3 billion scam messages, and froze 217.07 billion yuan while expanding international cooperation across Southeast Asia and beyond.
