Automakers Face Memory-Chip Shortages From AI

Automakers and their suppliers are facing shortages of memory chips because demand from companies building AI data centers is outcompeting automotive customers, Bloomberg reported Tuesday (Jan. 20), citing analysts from UBS and S&P Global Mobility. Analysts say automotive-grade DRAM prices have more than doubled in some cases and could spike 70%–100%, risking production disruptions into the second quarter and pushing automakers to develop agile sourcing and deeper supplier relationships.
