Anthropic Launches Mythos Model to Surface Critical Vulnerabilities
Anthropic released a preview of its new Claude Mythos model and launched Project Glasswing, a defensive cybersecurity initiative that includes Apple and other major technology and security firms. Mythos Preview has already identified “thousands of high-severity vulnerabilities,” including flaws across every major operating system and web browser, and has chained a Linux-kernel bug to full machine takeover. Anthropic is sharing the unreleased model with a curated group — listed partners plus more than 40 additional organizations — to find and fix flaws before the model is more broadly available. The company positions the effort as urgent: advanced AI can both accelerate defensive discovery and risk proliferating offensive capabilities if unmanaged.
Scoring Rationale
This story signals a measurable shift: frontier models can now surface high-severity, multi-step vulnerabilities at scale. That matters to security teams, ML deployers, and platform owners, but the initiative is defensive and staged, so it is important but not yet industry-defining.
