Alphabet's Q2 Revenue Rises 24% as Google Cloud Grows 82%

Alphabet reported $119.8 billion in second-quarter revenue, up 24% from a year earlier, while Google Cloud revenue jumped 82% to $24.8 billion. Net income available to common shareholders reached $112.1 billion, but most of the increase came from a $99.0 billion gain on equity securities rather than the operating business.
Alphabet reported second-quarter revenue of $119.8 billion for the period ended June 30, 2026, a 24% increase from a year earlier. Operating income rose 30% to $40.8 billion, while net income available to common shareholders increased to $112.1 billion.
The net-income figure needs context. Alphabet recorded $98.0 billion in other income, primarily from unrealized gains on equity securities. The company said a $99.0 billion net gain on those securities added $77.1 billion to net income and $6.26 to diluted earnings per share. The quarter's $9.11 diluted EPS therefore should not be read as a clean measure of recurring operating performance.
Cloud growth accelerates
Google Cloud revenue rose 82% to $24.8 billion, up from $13.6 billion in the year-earlier quarter. Cloud operating income reached $8.8 billion, compared with $2.8 billion a year earlier. Reuters reported that the cloud growth exceeded analysts' expectations and linked the acceleration to enterprise demand for AI infrastructure and services.
Google Services remained the larger business, producing $94.5 billion in revenue. Google Search and other revenue increased 17% to $63.3 billion, while YouTube advertising revenue rose 13% to $11.1 billion. Alphabet said nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies use Gemini Enterprise and reported 950 million monthly active users for the Gemini app; those adoption figures are company-reported.
AI spending outpaces quarterly operating cash flow
Alphabet spent $44.9 billion on property and equipment during the quarter, roughly double the year-earlier amount. With $39.1 billion in operating cash flow, that produced negative quarterly free cash flow of $5.9 billion under the company's definition.
For data and AI teams, the durable signal is the combination of faster cloud growth and substantially higher infrastructure spending. The headline profit is less useful for judging the operating trend because it was dominated by investment revaluation. Future quarters will show whether cloud demand, search monetization and enterprise AI adoption can keep scaling against the cost of compute capacity.
Key Points
- 1Alphabet's Q2 revenue rose 24% year over year to $119.8 billion, while operating income increased 30% to $40.8 billion.
- 2Google Cloud revenue grew 82% to $24.8 billion and cloud operating income reached $8.8 billion.
- 3A $99.0 billion gain on equity securities drove most of the jump in net income, while $44.9 billion of capital spending pushed quarterly free cash flow to negative $5.9 billion.
Scoring Rationale
High practitioner relevance because Alphabet's results quantify enterprise AI infrastructure demand, cloud growth, and the cost of scaling compute. The unusually large investment gain makes careful separation of operating and non-operating performance essential.
