Wikimedia Foundation Secures Commercial Access Deals
The Wikimedia Foundation announced on Thursday, during Wikipedia’s 25th anniversary, that Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, Perplexity, and Mistral AI have joined Google in paying for access to Wikimedia projects through Wikimedia Enterprise. Launched in 2021, Wikimedia Enterprise provides a premium, commercial API version tuned for AI companies and feature requests. Revenue from the partnerships will support Wikimedia’s projects and aim to create sustainable funding for the nonprofit.
