Visakhapatnam Deploys AI Traffic Management System

Visakhapatnam's civic body said on February 24 it will roll out SARTHI, a ₹60–65 crore AI-based traffic management project by April 2026, installing over 2,000 cameras across 56 corridors and 102 junctions. The system pairs Adaptive Traffic Control at 102 junctions with an AI-powered Integrated Traffic Management System featuring ANPR, red-light violation detection and automatic e-challans; officials will study other cities' models from February 25.
Key Points
- 1Implements SARTHI with 2,000+ cameras, ATCS at 102 junctions and ITMS monitoring over 90 junctions
- 2Aims to reduce red-light waiting times, detect violations with ANPR/RLVD, and improve road safety
- 3Enables real-time e-challans and adaptive green extensions, allowing operators to clear congestion faster
Scoring Rationale
Official municipal rollout with concrete scope and features; limited novelty and technical depth constrains broader industry impact.
