Waymo Registers Swiss Robotaxi Company in Zurich

The filing does not mean driverless Waymo rides are imminent in Switzerland. NZZ reported that neither Waymo nor Uber had submitted an application to the Federal Roads Office, known as ASTRA, for a robotaxi pilot. No Swiss test location or start date has been announced.

Swiss rules allow authorized pilot operations, but an applicant must document technical and operational safety, define the operating area, provide risk management, and meet the legal framework. NZZ also reported that Switzerland has no generally approved fully autonomous vehicle for unrestricted road use, keeping current projects inside limited pilot structures.

The registration adds Switzerland to Waymo's European corporate preparations. A separate report from The Last Driver License Holder highlighted the Swiss entity and noted that the timing followed a San Francisco Waymo ride by Swiss President Guy Parmelin and National Council member Franz Grüter. That political interest is context, not evidence that regulators have approved a Waymo deployment.

For autonomous-mobility practitioners, the meaningful development is organizational: Waymo now has a Swiss legal entity whose stated purpose matches its robotaxi business. The operational milestones still to watch are a filed pilot application, an approved safety case, a defined operating domain, and a public testing schedule. Until those appear, the registration should be read as market preparation rather than service availability.
