Uber on Jan. 29, 2026 announced a program to outfit vehicles from its 50,000 global fleet partners with exterior-facing sensor kits to collect camera and sensor data for robotaxi partners. The initiative seeks real-world 'long-tail' driving data, including rare events, to support autonomous-vehicle development and eventual monetization. Waabi separately announced a deal to deploy 25,000 robotaxis on Uber's platform in a $1 billion agreement.
