Treasury Deploys AI Across Major IRS Functions

The Treasury Department published its latest AI use case inventory this week, listing 129 AI items overall and 61 specific to the IRS, up from 54 total and 49 IRS-specific in 2024. The inventory details plans to deploy AI across IT, tax-exempt review, amended filings, chatbots, identity verification, resume ranking and document digitization, reflecting an effort to offset 2025 staffing cuts.
