Texas Proposes Statewide K-12 Required Reading List

The Texas state education board discussed draft legislation on Feb. 10, 2026, proposing a statewide K-12 required reading list of roughly 300 texts. The list includes Holocaust memoirs such as Elie Wiesel’s Night, Anne Frank’s original diary, and selections from the Bible, and could become mandatory for the state’s 5.5 million students as soon as the 2030-31 school year. Debate and amendments delayed a vote until April.
