SSSTC Expands Immersion-Cooling SSD Portfolio for AI Data Centers

According to a PR Newswire release republished by Yonhap, Digitimes, and other outlets, Solid State Storage Technology Corporation (SSSTC), a subsidiary of Kioxia, showcased an expanded portfolio of SSDs for immersion-cooling use cases at Computex 2026. Per the coverage, the lineup includes SATA ER3, ER4, and ER5 series and PCIe U.2 PJ1 and EJ5 series, with corrosion-resistant materials, component protection, and structural design intended for submersion in non-conductive dielectric fluids.

The enterprise eTLC drives are described as offering endurance options of 1 and 3 DWPD over a five-year period and maintaining more than 90% random IOPS consistency under sustained workloads. Industrial models are reported to support operating temperatures from -40C to 85C, anti-vibration and shock-resistant mechanical design, pSLC architecture options, and a multi-tier power-loss-protection framework spanning hardware PLP, firmware PLP, and PLN.

Reporting frames the updates as part of a broader move by storage vendors to adapt hardware to immersion environments as AI server density rises. Immersion cooling can reduce reliance on air cooling and lower rack-level thermal constraints and PUE, but it introduces engineering requirements around corrosion resistance, connector reliability, and firmware behavior under continuous liquid exposure.

The stated endurance, sustained-IOPS, and corrosion-resistance numbers are vendor figures; buyers should look for independent test-lab validation and qualification data before committing immersion-ready SSDs to write-heavy AI workloads.
