Sapio Sciences Reports ELN Frustration Driving Shadow AI

Sapio Sciences today published survey results from 150 U.S. and European lab scientists showing widespread dissatisfaction with current electronic lab notebooks (ELNs), with only 62% saying ELNs enable efficient work and 65% reporting repeated experiments due to poor data reuse. The study finds 45% use public generative AI (shadow AI) and strong demand for AI-enabled, conversational ELNs—95% want text interfaces and 96% want ELNs to help interpret data.
