Samsung Unveils Three Galaxy Z Foldables With Gemini Intelligence

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8 on July 22, expanding its foldable lineup to three models and adding Gemini Intelligence features across the devices. Google says task automation now spans more than 40 apps, while reported U.S. starting prices range from $1,199 for Flip8 to $2,099.99 for Fold8 Ultra.
Samsung unveiled three Galaxy Z foldables at its July 22 Unpacked event in London: the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8. The launch expands Samsung's foldable range with distinct designs while putting agentic AI features closer to the devices' primary interfaces.
Three foldables, three form factors
Samsung describes the Fold8 Ultra as its highest-end foldable. It has an 8-inch main display, measures 4.1 millimeters thick when unfolded and weighs 215 grams. The company says its camera system includes a 200-megapixel main sensor and that the device supports a new dual-path charging architecture. Axios reports a U.S. starting price of $2,099.99.
The standard Fold8 uses a different, squarer shape with a 4:3 unfolded display ratio. Samsung says it weighs 201 grams and carries a 4,800 mAh battery; Axios reports that it starts at $1,899 in the United States. The clamshell Flip8 weighs 180 grams, measures 6.1 millimeters thick when unfolded and starts at $1,199, according to Axios. Samsung says all three models are available for pre-order in select markets beginning July 22.
Gemini moves into the device interface
Google says the phones introduce the first capabilities of Gemini Intelligence. Its task-automation feature now supports more than 40 apps, covering activities such as shopping, restaurant reservations, travel bookings and event tickets. Google says users can monitor an automated task, intervene during execution and approve the final action.
Gemini Notebook, formerly NotebookLM, also comes preinstalled. On the larger Fold8 displays, users can place source material beside the app and create outputs such as presentations, videos, flash cards, quizzes and audio. Google is including a six-month Google AI Pro trial with each of the three phones. Samsung separately says the Flip8's FlexWindow can surface AI-driven information and actions without requiring users to unfold the device.
Why the launch matters
The product strategy links different hardware shapes to different AI interaction patterns: a large workspace on Fold8 Ultra, a content-oriented ratio on Fold8 and quick cover-screen actions on Flip8. For data and product teams, the notable shift is distribution rather than a new foundation model. Samsung and Google are embedding agent workflows into frequently used device surfaces, with progress visibility and final confirmation presented as control points.
Those workflows remain vendor-described capabilities at launch. Their practical value will depend on app coverage, reliability and how consistently confirmation boundaries hold in real use.
Key Points
- 1Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8 at its July 22 Unpacked event in London.
- 2Google says Gemini Intelligence task automation now works across more than 40 apps and requires users to review final actions.
- 3The lineup uses different form factors to place AI workflows on large foldable displays and the Flip8 cover screen.
Scoring Rationale
A major consumer-device launch gives agentic AI workflows a prominent distribution channel across three new foldable models. The impact is meaningful for mobile AI product design, but deployment quality and sustained adoption remain unproven at launch.
