Rwanda Evaluates Babyl Telemedicine Implementation Challenges

A qualitative study published April 1, 2026 in JMIR analyzes implementation experiences of Babyl, Rwanda’s largest telemedicine platform that halted in September 2023. Using 20 focus group discussions and 32 key informant interviews across 12 health centers, researchers identified five themes including enablers, barriers, satisfaction, benefits, and improvement suggestions. The study recommends community mobilization, universal agent deployment, and sustainable financing to support scalable telemedicine in Rwanda and similar LMICs.
