Photographer and filmmaker Michael O. Snyder has published Alleghania: A Central Appalachian Folklore Anthology through The Bitter Southerner, documenting 77 individuals across Central Appalachia. The monograph pairs portraits and first-person narratives — from farmers and herbalists to skateboarders and monks — to examine how internet, economic, and infrastructural changes are reshaping regional traditions. The book reframes Appalachian identity for cultural and environmental researchers.
