OpenAI Launches Codex Mac App, Altman Reflects

OpenAI rolled out a standalone Codex Mac app on Feb. 3, 2026, and CEO Sam Altman said building with it left him feeling "a little useless" after the AI suggested superior ideas. The app runs parallel AI agents, includes image-generation skills, and OpenAI said more than one million developers used Codex last month. The release expands developer workflows and temporarily broadens access for free and Go tier users.
