OpenAI Explores APIs for Deeper ChatGPT Wearable Integrations

Brockman described integrations as a potential use of OpenAI's API platform and said the company wants its interface to be available across devices. He also made clear that wearable-specific APIs are still in an early phase.

That distinction matters: OpenAI did not announce a finished wearable API, supported-device list, release date, or commercial launch. The update is a statement of product direction rather than a product release.

CNET, which attended the briefing, reported that deeper access would need to account for capabilities that differ from conventional phone and desktop apps, including:

Some existing wearables already use OpenAI models, but that is not necessarily the same as direct access to a user's ChatGPT account or the broader controls available in OpenAI's desktop and mobile products. The proposed APIs would need to address those device and permission differences.

The practical evidence will be a documented API, its permission model, supported hardware, privacy controls, and developer availability. Always-on microphones, cameras, and background processing create higher privacy and security stakes than a conventional chat window. Until OpenAI publishes those details, the announcement should be read as an early product direction rather than confirmation that a new wearable integration is ready to ship.
