OpenAI Adds Skills Support To ChatGPT

OpenAI has added support for Anthropic-style "skills" to ChatGPT's Code Interpreter and the open-source Codex CLI, visible via a /home/oai/skills folder and a ~/.codex/skills convention (Dec. 12, 2025). The implementation covers spreadsheets, DOCX and PDFs by converting pages to PNGs for vision-enabled GPT models and supports GPT-5.2; users demonstrated Datasette plugin and PDF-generation workflows. This enables reusable, filesystem-backed skill tooling across OpenAI interfaces.
Key Points
- 1Adds skills folder support in ChatGPT and Codex CLI, exposing /home/oai/skills and ~/.codex/skills
- 2Enables modular task tooling similar to Anthropic's Skills, accelerating interoperable agent capabilities across platforms
- 3Allows developers to author reusable skill folders for workflows, plugins, PDF and document processing
Scoring Rationale
Official cross-platform adoption increases developer interoperability, though the skills concept was pioneered by Anthropic and not entirely novel.
