NIST Establishes AI Centers To Secure Infrastructure

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced Dec. 26, 2025 a $20 million partnership with The MITRE Corporation to create two AI research centers focused on advanced applications. One center targets advanced manufacturing; the AI Economic Security Center will protect water, power, internet and other critical infrastructure from AI-driven cyber threats and accelerate deployment of AI-enabled and agentic tools.
