India Expands Domestic Server Manufacturing Capacity

India's central government says it is "fully conscious" of security and economic implications of importing servers and is progressively developing domestic manufacturing capacity, Union MoS Jitin Prasada told the Rajya Sabha on 19 December. The government listed schemes — PLI for IT hardware, ECMS, Semicon India, DLI and telecom PLI — and CERT-In issued updated BOM guidelines in July 2025 to bolster supply-chain security.
Key Points
- 1Announces expansion of domestic server manufacturing through PLI, ECMS, DLI and telecom incentives
- 2Highlights security and strategic risks of importing servers, prompting supply-chain localization and design support
- 3Encourages manufacturers and integrators to pursue incentives and local production for data-centre components
Scoring Rationale
Official government policy and incentives drive domestic server manufacturing; limited novelty since builds on existing programmes.
