India Builds Holistic AI Leadership Blueprint

The Government of India launched the IndiaAI Mission in March 2024 to build a national AI ecosystem combining compute, data, talent, governance and sectoral applications. In under eighteen months it onboarded over 38,000 GPUs (≈₹65/GPU-hour), empanelled 12 model developers, deployed the AIKosh dataset platform, approved 30 sectoral applications, and set ambitious training and semiconductor targets. The initiative centralizes resources to boost domestic AI capacity and responsible deployment.
