At a March 28, 2026 seminar in Kalaburagi, Prof. Sunil said IIT Kanpur's Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) broadcasting technology transmits IP-based multimedia to mobile devices via terrestrial TV airwaves without internet. An indigenously developed software-defined radio chipset from Tejas Networks, with Intel laptop integration, enables receivers; compatible smartphones and feature phones are in development. The technology aims to deliver education and emergency alerts in low-connectivity areas.
