Hong Kong Expands Funding For Employee Tech Upskilling
Acting Secretary Lillian Cheong told the Legislative Council on March 18 that Hong Kong will expand support for enterprise digital transformation through enhanced funding schemes and training initiatives. The government will enhance the Digital Transformation Support Pilot Programme to include AI and cybersecurity, and existing New Industrialisation schemes, HKPC programs, and the Continuing Education Fund (CEF) will subsidise workforce upskilling. No mandatory funding set-asides for employee training will be imposed.
Key Points
- 1Enhances Digital Transformation Support Pilot Programme to include AI and cybersecurity, planned launch in second half 2026
- 2Provides matched funding and training via New Industrialisation schemes and HKPC to boost SME competitiveness and skills
- 3Declines mandatory funding set-asides for employee training; practitioners must track eligible program guidelines to secure support
Scoring Rationale
Official government announcement with concrete programs and timelines; limited novelty beyond incremental programme enhancements for SMEs.
